Blog 1: Artistic Statement

Film editing and production have been a huge part of my life since I was thirteen years old. I received a macbook pro one year and found a love for editing in iMovie just simply by editing random videos together with my friends in my free time. My curiosity for the film and editing grew when I joined the Audio Visual Tech Team in middle school. Throughout those four years I gained information and experience in lighting, sound, production, music/film editing and stagecraft. My brother is actually one of my biggest influences of my goals and hobbies. He introduced me not only to all different genres of music, but all different aspects of film as well. Spending most of our younger years at the skatepark with a camcorder had its advantages. He taught me almost everything I know about editing music to videos. From there I gained experience and knowledge about dark room photography, digital/film photography and film editing from classes I attended at FIT.
Editing videos had became a hobby for me, it’s always something I look forward to working on. Overtime I looked at it more as a career because it’s what i’m most happy doing. I’d be happy working with any type of editing, although I do believe that music videos are my “calling”. When I put together a music video I want it to have an affect on people that view it. I strive to obtain the “wow” factor that makes whatever song playing even better.

One of my biggest influences within film is Stanley Kubrick. The incredible cinematography/directing showed in his films and the flow from shot to shot is the aesthetic I would love to achieve someday. I am also heavily influenced by horror and thriller as genres. Anything from Psycho to Jaws and even American Horror Story. I have a Editing brings shots and scenes together to create a film, music video, tv show, etc. I find a thrill when I edit because, for me, playing back a music video you edited and seeing everything come together is both a satisfying and liberating feeling all in one.
